Frozen landscape, post-climate drop
This is my progress along the Neon Challenge. I want to practice working with Unity, creating 3D models, track what resources I'm using and get feedback on the way. Let's discuss, shall we?
I will post my updates below, and try to write down what I did and why.
I want to create a frosty, quiet world that leaves room for thought. A place that needs light to exist and communicate, that's dark and heavy. That's why I decided to try out some extreme weather and go for low, low temperatures. I dropped a fresh, default Unity terrain and created four snow / ice textures from some tiled ice textures I had laying around. Of course the "cliff" is a bit too smooth right know, but who knows if I keep it.
I also imported my own plugin to create screenshots. It's free, if you need one for your own projects: To the Assetstore!
I like the idea of a mega structure or some machine-bay type of architecture in the far back to create a sense of scale and distance. I think far distances might be come a problem though, since a thick snowy fog would render far away objects invisible. Still not sure about how to approach that. Maybe a height fog helps?
Next will be some ground crawling fog to get some subtle movement into the scene:

Okay, some experiments with structures, probably gonna settle on a mega structure thing in the background.
I am happy with this layout for now. Next I will do some modelling in Blender. I am thinking of a mix of fabrik and robotics for the machines that work in this area. Maybe there will be "human" influence as well, or romains. Not sure yet.

MaartenHey man, I really like this idea! Do you know Simon Stålenhag? http://www.simonstalenhag.se/ I think he could be some good inspiration for you!
Haha, wow, that's amazing. I was actually browsing his paintings when I was brainstorming on the setting! I will put his website in the blog above later, thanks for the comment.
