Swipe to survive, for as long as you can, on the endless, haunted and trapped pathway. Jump to avoid hungry ghosts, giant boulders and vaporizing beams.
"Run Die Retry" is a retro modern arcade style endless runner for iOS, where the goal is to survive for as long as you can.
The original plan was to make a quick game in a month. A prototype that covered most of the functionality was done in a few days. Making the game polished took another year and a half. Since I have a full time job, working on the game was relegated to evenings and weekends.
Unexpected problems cropped up each day, and solving some took a few weeks since I could only work for a few hours at a time. Often I would get discouraged and stop working for days. The breakthrough came when I decided to make a habit out of working on the game each day for at least an hour, no matter the motivation. Some days I would program, some draw and some work on marketing. This, in conjunction with a ticketing system, took out the additional mental burden of deciding when to work and what to work on.
At some point I had to stop adding new features, even when I knew the game would be much better because of it. This being my first game (but not my first app) I knew I would learn much more from player and community feedback, than if I spent a few more months polishing it in solitude.
