Rathunas (non-Unity project)
Published 2 years ago
Rathunas is a large community-developed mod for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
Rathunas was initially released in 2015 and is still actively maintained. Development of the mod was a five-year effort. I did all the technical work and much of the asset creation. The team also included:
  • Katherine Courtney (my wife) as lead writer and script editor, and Associate Producer.
  • A total of 35 voice actors from first-time newcomers through professional status.
  • Three QA testers in the USA and Canada.
  • Two music composers, one in Brazil and one in Germany, who produced a full orchestral score.
The project includes a fully-developed town, an interactive player home, and a multi-path interlocking series of quests in a vast underground ruin. Over 100 fully-voiced NPCs, hundreds of custom 3D models, textures, and sounds bring a fresh experience to players of this vintage (2006) game, while remaining true to the original game's story lore. A notable feature is the use, on multiple dungeon levels, of full-custom non-tiled geometry -- important for bringing new life to a decade-old classic where players have "seen it all."
In addition to its own custom assets, Rathunas relies on thousands of community-developed models, textures, and scripts to bring the town to life. (These are credited in detail in the mod's web page and downloadable documentation.)
This project was entirely non-commercial, a labor of love by all who participated. Although released to the public in 2015, the project is still actively maintained.
