Death’s Knocking is a horror cat-&-mouse top down game, requiring the player to escape death for as long as they can, while death locks all the rooms he passes through, restricting player movement and creating a smaller map layout. The theme was “small world”, an important element that we wanted to have in the design was that the play space played an important part in the main mechanic outside just being a physical timer. Through the mechanic, and restricting player visibility, we created a claustrophobic atmosphere and keeping the enemy out of sight for 90% of the playtime to maintain a sense of fear to the last second.
