Lost Shadows is a game based around the idea that light is dangerous and should be avoided at all costs. The concept is that shadow “people” haunt the light and since shadows can only be seen in light they are only able to attack there. This concept was something that is very counter intuitive as usually light reflects safety in most video games to date. The main goal was how would we teach the player that light is bad in a way that is seamless with the game play. We came up with a concept that the player’s main goal throughout the game would be to turn off and move lights in order to get through the different sections of the abandoned theme park Lockland. To do so she is equipped with a flashlight that exhibits special supernatural properties as the dangerous light does but works in her favour. The three different light filters for her flashlight: Cut (cuts wires turning off lights permanently), Power(turns off lights for a timed duration or turns on rides) and Gear(moves objects).

Thank you, Bioshock was a huge inspiration for creating Lost Shadows! The game is a demo, was built as a student project in 4 months. You can download and play it on itch.io: https://darchitectgames.itch.io/lostshadows. We were able to create 30 mins of gameplay although the game still does need some optimization as there was not time for it in the 4 months we created the game in.

Like , the environment and the music, I am a big fan of Bioshock infinite, and Lost Shadows remind me Bioshock. good work ;)
