Based on the groundbreaking discovery of a solar system with 3 planets in the habitable zone of TRAPPIST-1’s orbit: The excitement around the discovery led to the United States, Russia, China, and India cooperating on a massive technological undertaking like the world had never seen. Unfortunately, the founders of “Project Pilgrim” realized that they would never see their dream come to fruition. As centuries ticked by, the project crept forward. We, as a civilization made discoveries that led to a means of creating a gravitational field strong enough to sustain travel at speeds close to c. Our first drone sent to TRAPPIST-1’s system, named Mayflower II (as it was mostly funded by the United States) was sent in the year 2320 to survey the planets in TRAPPIST-1’s habitable zone. Amazingly, in 2410 we received confirmation from Mayflower II that indeed not only one but two of the planets in TRAPPIST-1’s orbit contained liquid water and a sustainable temperature/atmosphere to support human life. As it became increasingly clearer that growing population sizes on Earth were unsustainable, the world’s ultra rich funneled a marvelous amount of assets into Project Pilgrim and the development of the Interstellar Experimental Starships (IXS) Odyssey and IXS Pilgrim; the first attempt at colonization of a distant system. The player character takes the role of Captain Blake Anderson. She/He (duel roles are selectable) is slated to be the 5th Captain of the ship; placed in cryo-sleep until they are needed. This system is in place to assure that there are healthy and able-bodied crew members for the duration of the trip. TRAPPIST-1 is 39 light years from Earth. The IXS Odyssey's primary purpose is to find a starting location for a viable human colony on one of TRAPPIST-1's planets. A great deal of the ship is dedicated to research and laboratories for this purpose. The ship sends down planetside explorers to gather some vital resources when a science researcher breaks off from the group... this is where everything goes wrong.
