Last year there was a cute little spider hanging out in our backyard.
My son, Arnold noticed him hanging between the trees - which are standing really close to each other. Since that day he checked back on him every single day he could. He gave him a familiar name: Incy Fincy
Incy survived many many days in between those trees no matter what was the weather like. Unfortunately he disappeared at the end of october. In his mourning Arni suggested that we should make a game about our little pet to never forget him and let others know about his ambitious goal: to reach record heights among all the spiders.
My IRL friend, Gábor who is a talented artist decided to help us out on our journey thus the decision was made: Let there be a 2D spider-game!
The game is a cartoony 2D endless vertical scroller. The player's goal is to help Incy to reach the highest height possible before he runs out of spider silk.
Spider silk is used when he stops (by tapping near Incy) and also when Incy headbutts an enemy sitting on a branch. If Incy catches a fly he gets a silk. He can stop while there is enough silk to do so and when stopped the player can pull Incy back and launch him in a direction - just like a slingshot. Gravity is a constant factor, the water level is rising, and there are a few mechanical obstacles as well to add a bit of spice to the gameplay.
Design and concepts
Each level is procedurally generated and the enemies appear more frequently as the player advances upwards. If Incy touches any of them he covers them in spider silk while he loses a predefined amount of silk. That amount is their "damage".
To let the player make some customization we are also planning to add a good amount of headwears - some of them craftable and some just for purchase.
