/fyo͞oɡ/ (noun)
1. MUSIC - a contrapuntal composition in which a short melody or phrase (the subject) is introduced by one part and successively taken up by others and developed by interweaving the parts.
2. PSYCHIATRY - a state or period of loss of awareness of one's identity, often coupled with flight from one's usual environment, associated with certain forms of hysteria and epilepsy.

About

I believe we become the people we are because of our experiences. The games and songs I grew up and love are the ones that taught me to never give up. It was this attitude which helped me through my time being homeless in Philadelphia. Games are great teachers. So it’s important to consider what our games are teaching. I want to fuel my games with personal experience to connect with and inspire players using what touches me at my core: games and music. Fugue is a game about finding warmth in a cold and dark environment inspired by my experience with homelessness; The music is composed dynamically as the player explores, finding puzzles and secrets ingrained throughout the world.

Design

Gameplay Description: Fugue is an atmospheric exploration art game, where the player travels across a snow covered landscape, discovers secrets, and solves puzzles.
Subtractive Design: We are practicing subtractive design, which is the process of removing imperfections and extraneous parts in order to strengthen the core elements.
Dynamic Music: Inspired by Peter and the Wolf, the story of Fugue is told through its music; which is composed by several interweaving instrumental layers representing the elements of the world.
Integrated Puzzles: Our goal is to integrate puzzles into the world in such a way that they enhance the emotional experience, and provide variety and depth to gameplay.
Art Style: We are aiming for is a minimalistic stylization – clear color palettes and strong silhouettes without normals. The vibe is cold and dark with spots of warmth and magical, looming overtones.

Goals

Short-term: to create a vertical slice for GDC 2020, which will contain a mostly polished tutorial.
Long-term: to release on Epic, Discord, and Steam platforms, priced competitively at $14.99.
Our team is volunteering time because we are passionate about the project and want to create something special and personal. Dedicated to seeing this project through until the end, we view this as more than just a thesis project and will continue development as long as necessary, regardless of academic requirements.
