This is our game made for Global Game Jam [Athens] 2017 with Unity. It's a multiplayer VR game for Oculus Rift based on sound waves / Unity 3D sound.
Darkness and excessive body fat pose no obstacles for the might of the Cat-astropher. A multiplayer VR experience that gives the thrill of a chase in a pitch-black environment, focusing on the mental and hearing abilities of this epic predator. Joseph is an old, half blind cat whose flatmate, Phil, an obnoxious mouse, challenges him to a game of hide and seek. The cat’s goal is to spot the mouse before he manages to grab all the cheese and escape the room, and accordingly, the mouse must evade the cat’s sight in order to win the bet. Easy Cheesy is a multiplayer game, developed for one single computer, where one player, playing as Joseph, wears a Head Mounted Display and headphones, so as to spot his opponent. This player’s view is very limited, forcing him to base his search on the sounds his opponent makes, taking advantage of the simulation of binaural (3D sound) hearing that can be recreated in VR applications. Therefore, as this year’s GGJ subject is “Waves”, our team’s game drew inspiration from the concept of light and sound waves. On one hand lighting conditions differ greatly according to the players’ side, while on the other hand sound waves play a great role in the perception of three-dimensional space. The player taking the role of Phil controls the mouse via keyboard / gamepad while seeing a brighter version of the same room on screen. His goal is to gather all the pieces of cheese that are hidden in the room, without being spotted by his opponent. The room however is flooded with objects that are prone to making noise upon impact (glasses that break, cans that roll, keyboards that go clickety clack), turning Phil’s moves into strategic choices. Phil can choose to create diversions for the cat by interacting with some objects such as turning on the blender, triggering a toy mouse etc.
