In Last year I was very overworked: family, work, after hours game development all of those things made me tired and exhausted. I wanted to rest, to chill a bit, but game development was giving me so much pleasure that I didn't wanted to quit it...
My name is Gregory and I am one man indie developer studio from Poland called Simbite. I began to develop mobile games in 2011 and it started from project I had to make to pass class lesson.
Before that I said to myself that I will never develop on mobile as it's not something I am interested in and now here I am after 4 years with 4 games created on mobile. "Never say never" means much more than ever before to me.
After publishing my last game I wanted to rest for a while and take a deep breath but I was feeling kind of empty not developing any game so I decided to to make one with simple graphic, low poly models, only color materials and to combine those things into quite, worm and relaxing atmosphere.
This what Cobe The Gallery is a minimalist puzzle game among colors and cubes. There are 9 stages in the game with 9 puzzles each. Each puzzle is made of 170 cubes you have to color and when all of them are in one color you win. With progress you explore quite and worm gallery and its areas among smooth animations of each object. To make vibe more calming I also picket subtle and relaxing piano soundtrack.
Road to perfection
I spend a lot of hours by playing with the light, colors and shadows and it was quite hard to set up everything perfectly. I remember my frustration every time I've changed little thing even a bit and it wasn't something I wanted to get.
I was felling like an artist who tried to paint exactly what he have in his mind and many times I wanted just to leave it at it is and go further. But after all I am glad that I didn't do it. I am happy that I worked hard to get it as I wanted to because now every time I launch Cobe The Gallery I say to my self "this is it". And I love to play it.
What inspired me to make this game ?

So this time I decided to make a game that will relax me, to create something not in rush but calmly.
I am big fun of puzzle games like Machinarium, Monument Valley or Kami and those where a huge inspiration for me to make something with worm and calm atmosphere, tricky and beautiful but mainly relaxing. I didn't know Unity before so I decided to give it a try and it was a good move because 2 months of work in the evenings was enough to create such a great game as Cobe The Gallery is, the game that gave me calmness and helped me to enjoy game development more than before.
What is unique in Cobe The Gallery ?
The most unique thing in the game is the mechanic and atmosphere. I wasn't able to find game with similar gameplay to Cobe The Gallery and one with such quite and worm ambiance. The mechanic is unique but intuitive and simple: you change the color of other cubes by swiping shared border of the picked areas and then the magic is done.
I am very happy with the animation of the changing cubes I was able to create. Each cube is animated separately, all together looks pretty awesome and combined with dynamic shadows looks amazing. I used assets that were already build in so I didn't had to do extra work out of the IDE except of few models. I think that Cobe The Gallery is a great example that you can make nice looking game with simple graphic and models.
To sum up I would like to advice everyone to always work as long as you need to achieve result you want also don't do it in rush because it can kill your product and you will be disappointed in the end. Be patient, it will pay back. So sit down, relax and enjoy game development.
