A game concept

High Concept

A puzzle, platformer. The levels have to be solved with limited area lightened around the player.

Overview

Rangdol Gephel is a "blinded" monk, on his journey to attain enlightenment. His path is illuminated only by his will power, and by his master who trains his consciousness. Transforming his will into light Rangdol senses the world around him. P.S. "Blinded"
Aided by the shrines along the path, he can project his consciousness to scout the path ahead. Thus, using his will and his staff, he journeys from shrine to shrine.

Setup

  • Description: Side Scroller, Platformer, Puzzle, 3D
  • Setting: The levels are designed from shrine to shrine, with them acting as checkpoints. At each shrine, using them to channel his will, the monk meditates to find out what lies ahead. Once he leaves the shrine behind he is on his own.
  • Platform: Console and PC
  • Target Audience: 12+, the players for Limbo, Inside, Portal 2.
Game Design model used is the Quadrant model by Ashwanth RT .

Initial Concept

Gameplay

  • Travel from shrine to shrine in abnormal lighting while traversing through obstacles.
  • The player can meditate at any point to seek the path ahead. The area revealed reduces with each use of this skill.
  • The meditation time is recharged to the maximum at each shrine.

Plot

The order of our world is known to all. Dukes rule over men, kings rule over dukes, and "the watchers" are above all. Descending from their abode to judge over men, kings and entire kingdoms, none dare stand in their path. They judge the past, know the present and mould the future. They are aware of all that happens and all that is going to happen. They are gods incarnate, their projections on earth.
At least this is what the legend says.
A lesser known fact, this order is not a divine will. The watchers do not believe in any gods, it is just that they don't impose this belief on others. So now the supposed 'knowledgeable' few call them gods instead.
An unknown fact still is that the watchers are not gods, not their substitutes, not even beings of another species. They don't reside in the heavens or the stars. They live amongst us, and are just men.
Rangdol's master had told him this. Watchers are not the all-knowing, supreme beings this world thinks they are. Even their powers are not gifts. They attain them through training and sacrifice. A lot of sacrifice.
And who is his master? In the beginning Rangdol called him the voice in his head.
Rangdol was always an inquisitive child. He would see things differently. Actions were not enough, he would search for meaning. Meaning behind his actions and others’ as well. To everyone else it came out as just a lot of whys. Incessant, troubling, whys. But he never gave up, even after a lot of beatings. Soon he started getting his answers. He took it for granted initially. He though his mind had two voices. A voice of questions and a voice of reasons. It was much later when he left his home to make a life of his own that he discovered what the voice really was. This is his master.
