Project Artemis was an interactive art piece that used the Microsoft Kinect and Unity to translate your hand movements into the movement of a whale on screen as it flies through space. The goal of the piece was to create a calming experience driven by exploration and the motions of the body. It also featured a mulitplayer network that allowed players to encounter whales controlled by others in different locations.
Project Artemis was driven entirely by hand motions fed into a Kinect device in real-time. Users would walk up to a designated area, raise their hand, and begin controlling the pitch and yaw of the whale by moving their around the given space. This created an intuitive, easy control system that could be learned immediately by attendees at this exhibit. I worked with a motion control plugin for the Unity 3D game engine to achieve this effect.
