The Core was created in 48 hours for the Ludum Dare 35 Comp. While the art is lacking, and the UI faulty in some places, the game managed to come along well mechanically. In The Core, the player has a robot companion, which can have a variety of attachments added to it to make the player stronger by proxy. In the 48 hours, the following features were created for the game:
Level generator - Given a variety of parameters, from level size to number of paths to distance platforms can move, the system will randomly generate a platforming level.
Attachment system - Definitely the highlight of the game, as just about everything revolves around collecting the currency to build attachments and then using these attachments to make yourself stronger. Enemies in-game will drop scrap, and scattered around the level will be a number of workshops (another generator option) at which the player can spend their scrap to build these attachments for their robot companion. These attachments range from guns to shields to jump jets to so much more. At workshops, the player can either build a new attachment, disassemble an existing attachment (which will grant a permanent stat buff to the player), or level up existing attachments.
