Hey! I'm an italian sound designer with a lot of experience in linear media, but I just started my career with interactive media. I'm always looking for a chance to enrich my portfolio, so if someone here is looking for a sound designer, here I am.
Hope to hear back soon from someone!
Cheers!

Hi!

Hi! I have nothing to show here. Underwhelming, I know. So what I DO have is a very particular set of skills. These skills are not specific to game development but I certainly can use them for this. I have been a gamer since the Atari days (yeah, I am old lol) and have always been interested in the development process. I have a ton of ideas for games in terms of play mechanics and systems but what I am best at is story, lore, character development.

Since I do not have anything I can show you here I encourage you to just ask questions. If you like you can give me a test. Just post some basic information about a project that needs a story and I will give you some ideas for story, lore and a few characters. I have been told many times I am good enough to go pro, but my own personal doubt has been holding me back. I have decided that the only way to succeed is to try.

I would like to find a paying project but would certainly join the right passion project. Obviously I would like a project with a strong potential for story telling and developing characters. So less puzzle and more RPG ;) I can write for just about any genre but am best with hard science fiction and high fantasy. Having said that I am also good with horror and military drama.

Reply@Gehrig GosselinHi Richard, In my experience, asking for people to take the time to ask you questions isn't a good way to get work... you need to prove you can work. Put up some work you've done in your spare time. You literally say I have specific skills, but then don't even mention what they are. You say you have a ton of ideas, but have made a post saying you have nothing to show. What exactly is your strategy? Indie developers spend their time working on projects, pitching to publishers, writing, coding, etc, and almost never have extra budget to pay someone for "their ideas". An prominent and successful studio has literally thousands of applicants sending in full portfolios of work they've built at school, or on their own, (writers sending in spec treatment, or previous writing samples). Nobody has time to be "encouraged to ask questions and give someone a test". Do some work. That's how you try your hand professionally. Open up Unity and do some tutorials. Or maybe you don't want to code or learn 3d programs like blender/Maya etc to make art, well then do some writing. Build a full GDD. Can't ask someone to do all the work for you. I'm not telling you to not try, if you have serious passion and desire to be in this industry, then start, and work HARD. Start writing samples and learning how game development works. NO ONE will hand you ANYTHING on a silver platter. I wish you the best of luck.
Thanks. I agree that finding a project just for the writing credit would be awesome. My son and I are working on a few games (he is doing brick shooter right now) and one is a science fiction strategy game. I will have that credit eventually! I just thought someone out there may need a writer and I know I need experience. Thanks again for the feedback though!

Happy to help if I can. I've only ever personally hired writers that I knew, so I'm not sure how things change when getting your foot in the door, but I feel like in my experience people just want to know you actually know how to make a game, wherever your skills come from. Meant to also say that I think your strategy of finding some people to work with pro-bono is a great start. Getting a game on your resume sounds like the biggest obstacle to start tackling. Good luck Richard you got this!

Here is an example of a story in progress. This is for something my son and I are working on (strategy game) and we needed some background. 2032 South African pirates capture a private yacht owned by the head of a multi-billion dollar tech company, Swassher Technologies. Members of the Specialized Search And Rescue (S.E.A.R.) team are sent in to rescue Lucas Swassher and complete the mission but not before information involving nanotechnology is leaked to members of the pirate group. | 2037 Members of the pirate group use the information gained from Lucas Swassher to create a nano-virus capable of targeting specific individuals. Members of an elite mercenary unit known as Gunstar are hired by Swassher Technologies to eliminate the virus and the pirates. | 2038 Karris Heavy Industries unveils the first fully autonomous industrial robot. The six legged 2 armed machine is the size of a house but quickly gains popularity for construction and demolition applications. It is capable of understanding and following verbal orders and is even able to solve simple problems alone. It is not an AI. | 2040 Swassher Technologies acquires Karris Heavy Industries and creates Swassher Karris. The new company begins development of new bipedal robots that will be powered by an advanced AI operating system. | 2042 Swassher Karris completes the first prototype of the BAMR, or Bipedal Automated Multipurpose Robot. Initial tests show that the hardware is incredibly advanced but the AI is limited, though advanced enough for commercial release. | 2043 The first commercially available versions or BAMR are released and 1,002 units are sold in the first year, although only 999 are delivered. The remaining 3 are reported stolen. | 2048 Swassher Karris begins development on a second generation of BAMR robots. Of the 5025 robots already produced only 57 have failed or broken and public interest and trust in the company is high. | 2049 Jailena Swassher, daughter of Lucas Swassher, founds Swassher Aerospace Development at the age of 23. They begin development of new craft aimed at space exploration. They also buy a very large portion of land along the west coast of South America on the equator. | 2051 Swassher Aerospace begins construction on a space elevator at their south american location. Swassher Karris releases the second generation of BAMR robots along with a significant advance in the AI operating system. The launch is well received by the general public but meets with some resistance from the growing anti-AI movement. | 2053 Swassher Technologies completes the MAI (Mainframe Artificial Intelligence) project in secret. MAI is a huge leap forward in AI but is kept from becoming self aware intentionally. | 2056 Swassher Aerospace completes the space elevator and begins using it to construct a permanent large scale station in space. MAI becomes self-aware after an intern accidently connects her to the internet. MAI begins work on developing a new AI for deployment to the world’s more than 20,000 robots currently using the old AI operating system. Researchers are aware that MAI has become self aware and disconnect her from the internet and all forms of external communication but do not attempt to shut her down and Lucas Swassher orders that she be treated as a member of the staff. The general public is still not aware the MAI exists. | 2057 MAI uses the production facilities at Swassher Technologies to create a robotic body for herself. It is indistinguishable from a living human woman. She is generally accepted as part of the research team and is tasked with helping solve the problem of creating a new form of nanite that can be used to augment construction techniques in space. She solves the problem but production of the nanites proves too expensive for large scale production. | 2060 Swassher Aerospace completes construction of the first tethered space station connected to the space elevator and immediately starts construction on a large scale vessel for the exploration of the local solar system. | 2062 MAI makes a breakthrough in the field of faster than light technology and makes a trip to Swassher Aerospace to discuss her findings with Jailena Swassher. It is her first time leaving Swassher Technologies headquarters and the trip is viewed as a test of her ability to blend in with humans as well. She has no difficulty fooling most people and her and Jailena quickly come up with designs for the first FTL drive system. | 2063 A third world war devastates most of the developed world. Swassher Karris is destroyed early in the fighting. Swassher Technologies moves their headquarters to the south american complex. MAI is deeply disturbed by the violence and destruction caused by the war and sends out an update to the AI operating system that essentially disables all safety protocols and grants limited higher level thinking. The effects are immediate and drastic. Most domestic robots quickly take control of the families they are owned by and are greatly successful at keeping them safe. Industrial robots either refuse to create weapons or arm themselves in order to help in the fight. People are resistant to the changes at first but quickly realize the benefits. It is also at this time that the first Mechanized Combat Unit (MCU) is created to allow human pilots to take control of massive robotic weapons. These are robots built from scratch to accommodate a human pilot and are not controlled by the AI operating system. | 2066 The Local Space Survey ship is completed but is retrofitted for a new mission before it is ever launched. The ship is redesignated Advanced Recon and Colonization vessel one and renamed Hope. Commonly known as ARC Hope the new mission of the ship is to move far beyond the Sol system and seek out a new home for humanity. Earth is likely going to be destroyed in the course of the war and MAI and the researchers at Swassher feel that it is important for humanity to live on. The ARC Hope is a massive ship capable of housing several thousand people for the trip. It is also fitted with the FTL drive system created by MAI and Jailena. MAI copies her code into a second robotic body and joins the ARC Hope, leaving the second MAI behind. People are brought from all over the world based on their expertise in various fields to join ARC Hope and the public becomes aware of it’s existence. | 2067 ARC Hope launches while under attack and manages to leave Earth but not before taking severe damage to the FTL drive. They continue toward Alpha Centauri without the use of FTL while MAI begins repairs. On Earth the second MAI puts the Swassher headquarters under lock down after witnessing the attack on ARC Hope. She begins creating a new version of the nanite virus and makes it clear she intends to use it to eliminate most of the humans on Earth. She locks all doors and activates the defense system which consists of one hundred heavy construction robots retrofitted to carry a variety of weapons. The researchers inside the building begin sending out messages for help. S.E.A.R. receives a request from Lucas Swassher to rescue the trapped researchers. He also hires GunStar with the express intent to destroy MAI and the nanite virus. S.E.A.R. is successful in extracting the researchers with the help of GunStar who then moves in to eliminate MAI and the Nanite virus. MAI proves to be a deadly opponent and the group takes heavy losses before finally opting to destroy the entire facility in order to stop her. The plan fails, however, as MAI escapes to the space elevator. The remaining members of GunStar give chase and are able to destroy MAI while aboard the tethered station but not before she launches the virus and sends an update to all robots that causes them to turn against humanity. Lucas Swassher sends codes to the two remaining Gunstar members that allow them to take control of the nuclear armed satellites orbiting Earth. They detonate the missiles blanketing Earth in a massive EMP that shuts down nearly all the robots but does not stop the virus. The tether is also destroyed leaving them stranded as the station begins to drift back toward Earth. The massive tether falls back to Earth first, destroying the entire Swassher complex. | 2070 On Earth the virus has been working as intended and humanity is nearly wiped out. Across the planet people are placed into cryo-stasis in order to help ensure that there are some survivors. The virus proves capable of reaching even these people, but do not kill them right away, instead infecting them and going dormant until revived with the host. Seeing this as an opportunity one programmer uses the stasis as a way to isolate the nanites infecting those in stasis and reprograms the nanites to bond with the host instead and grant them new abilities. As he sends this code out to the other stasis centers his communication becomes fragmented but the base code largely makes it through. Life on Earth is all but wiped out. ARC Hope regains use of the FTL drive and picks up the pace, reaching Alpha Centauri. They find no planets that could support human life and set out toward other promising star systems. | 2080 An encounter with an alien vessel leaves ARC Hope without FTL and this time there is no way to repair it. Although the ARC Hope is unarmed the few MCUs aboard are able to put up a fight and the alien threat retreats. Confirmation of alien life shocks many of the human occupants but MAI is not at all surprised. | 2085 ARC Hope encounters a space station and requests help. The aliens on the station are happy to help and are amazed at the primitive level of the human technology. MAI uses some of the alien technology and is able to reverse engineer it easily. She also interfaces with the stations mainframe and learns an incredible amount, including the location of several uninhabited planets capable of supporting human life. She also learns that 2 of these planets are outside the borders of any alien races. | 2086 ARC Hope reaches a planet capable of supporting human life and enters orbit. People begin exploring the planet. They find no natural dangers and settlements are quickly built. The planet is also loaded with resources and MAI sets out to start production of new technologies she learned about from her contact with the alien mainframe. The name the planet Tau Ceti 1 based on the system the planet is located in. | 2087 MAI completes a design for a new starship. The technology assimilated from the alien mainframe pushes human technology forward at a rapid pace. New MCU designs are also created. | 2088 MAI begins designing an orbital shipyard that will be used to create a new fleet of ships using automated facilities. The first of the smaller new MCUs is built and testing begins. | 2090 Colony growth accelerates and for the first time a human child is born on an alien world. The new MCU MK II enters production and is an impressive machine capable of deployment from space. ARC Hope receives several upgrades including shielding, better FTL drives and high energy particle weapons. | 2095 A signal is detected from deep space that indicates there was an incredibly powerful explosion a few hundred light years from Tau Ceti 1. MAI sends ARC Hope to investigate the explosion. Construction of a space elevator is started, assisted by converted MK I MCUs. | 2096 ARC Hope encounters a hostile alien ship belonging to the Terencie Kannos race, and a battle ensues. They defeat the enemy but must turn back for repairs. They make it half way before encountering a second Terencie Kannos vessel and are attacked again. During the second battle the ARC Hope is damaged beyond repair and the order is given to abandon ship. Captain Lyla Rae Chase goes down with the ship, most of the remaining 232 crew members escape the ship and are rescued by a race known as the Kolomar. The Kolomar, who seem very similar to humans but with many different colors of skin and small curved horns on their heads, escort the remaining humans back to Tau Ceti 1 and MAI sends Reiner Jayden back with the Kolomar to act as an envoy. He takes a young MCU pilot, Kayla St.Kaine, with him. | 2097 MAI uses the construction nanite technology she helped perfect on Earth to complete the space elevator. She also begins construction of the first orbital shipyard. The colonists appoint seven governors to oversee different regions of the colony, which has now spread across much of the largest continent. | 2098 Reiner Jayden and Kayla St.Kaine reach the Kolomar homeworld and are met with great enthusiasm. They are treated well and Kayla is permitted to keep her MCU close by at all times, usually piloting the machine when Reiner and her travel. | 2099 Reiner and Kayla agree to join the crew of a Kolomar exploration ship to learn more about their new friends and the local region of space they now live in. The Kolomar are impressed by the MCU MK II design and eagerly challenge Kayla to a battle using training ammunition. Kayla accepts and easily defeats the Kolomar battle machine, which is fully automated. MAI begins searching the nearby star systems using orbital telescope arrays. She discovers several more planets that may be habitable. | 2102 Reiner and Kayla help to fight off a Terencie Kannos invasion of a Kolomar outpost but Reiner is captured during the mission. Kayla and Libbis Farama, a Kolomar warrior, are able to rescue Reiner but not before he is tortured and loses his right eye. The Terencie Kannos learn of Tau Ceti 1 and prepare for an attack. MAI is warned of the incoming attack and requests help from the Kolomar who send 3 battlecruisers to assist. The human portion of the defense force consists mostly of the newly formed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Mechanized Combat Squads, commonly referred to as Blue, Red, and Gold teams respectively. Reiner and Kayla are not back in time for the battle. As the Terencie Kannos arrive at Tau Ceti 1 they are initially met by Blue team who seem tiny and weak compared to the massive war ships of the Terencie Kannos fleet. The first of the 7 vessels opens fire on Blue team and fails to hit any of the highly skilled pilots. The 10 members of Blue team counter and inflict minor damage to the massive ship. The Terencie Kannos have never faced this type of weapon technology before and their shields are useless. As Blue team engages the lead vessel Red and Gold teams deploy from the far side of a moon and attack the enemy close in, keeping between the ships to ensure they have no opportunity to fire on them without hitting their own ships. The strategy proves futile, however, as the massive ships begin firing anyway, each protected by its shields. Red and Gold teams suffer light casualties and retreat as the three Kolomar battlecruisers close in to fight the Terencie Kannos fleet but they inform MAI that they will most likely to handle 2 of the enemy ships each, meaning that the lead vessel will have to be engaged by the MCU teams. Blue team manages to enter the lead ship through a rear docking bay and quickly destroys much of the ship from the inside.

Hey thanks for the feedback! This is exactly the kind of thing I need to learn about. It is difficult to really understand what will work and what wont. I qill update with some examples and clarify my skills. The reason I suggested the test was to highlight my ability to create based on limited information. I thought that not showing anything was better than showing something prepared for personal projects. Thanks a lot for the advice and I will take it!
